Pronghorn Outdoor Ruggedized Wi-Fi Access Point Based on the Intel® IXP425 Network Processor
Pronghorn Outdoor is a robust, standards-compliant outdoor 802.11b/g or a/b/g OEM access point powered by Intel XScale® technology. Pronghorn Outdoor is housed in a weatherproof NEMA 6 enclosure, and it supports up to two high-power 802.11b/g or a/b/g radios, industrial grade construction, optional extended temperature components, multiple antenna options, industry-leading Wi-Fi application firmware support, and RoHS compliance.
Pronghorn Outdoor is the ideal solution for WISPs, integrators and OEMs needing to bring high-performance outdoor Wi-Fi equipment market quickly and at low cost. ADI's meticulous attention to detail in the design has resulted in a solid platform that WISPs can confidently use to build out critical infrastructure. Examples of these details are on-board surge protection on Ethernet ports, a fully isolated on-board Power over Ethernet regulator to eliminate ground loops, true extended temperature operation (optional), spread spectrum CPU clocking and generous signal termination and decoupling for a very quiet design, and a unique on-board power supply that meets the high current and fast transient response needs of high-power MiniPCI radio cards - whether they are powered from 3.3V or 5V.
Pronghorn Outdoor is supported by industry-leading Wi-Fi application firmware stacks, including Wireless Infrastructure Platform (WIP) from Devicescape, WILI-S from Wilibox, IkarusOS from Antcor, and dot11Linux and dot11Core from Absolute Value Systems. All are Linux-based software platforms enabling implementation of highly functional, secure and manageable wireless networking devices: hotspot access points, access controllers, enterprise access points, fixed 802.11a/b/g wireless network elements, base stations and customer premise equipment (CPE) and high performance, secure point-to-point or point-to-multipoint wireless bridges. These firmware stacks provide the very latest in Wi-Fi security, performance and functionality.
Adding to Pronghorn Outdoor's standards compliance, Devicescape WIP is the reference standard used in the Wi-Fi Alliance's certification testbed. WIP is not simply standards compliant - it is the standard, and it is available off-the-shelf for Pronghorn Outdoor customers. ADI can brand the WIP graphical user interface and management pages with your logo and page layout and make other customizations as required.
Customers looking to deploy their own proprietary firmware on Pronghorn Outdoor may do so using ADI's free source-level SDK – Linux board support packages for MontaVista and SnapGear, as well as RedBoot.
For larger OEM orders, ADI can reconfigure the Pronghorn Outdoor hardware without any redesign per the following table. If a truly custom feature set is needed, ADI can quickly modify Pronghorn Outdoor to meet exact hardware requirements.
