Tiny 88x110mm “Cinnamon Bay SBC” Meets Need for Extended Temperature Range, Easy Adaptability, and Low Cost
ADI Now Supports Intel Atom As The "Open IP ODM"
Charlottesville, VA, March 3, 2009—ADI Engineering, the "Open IP ODM" and a leading supplier of single board computers and custom design-through-production solutions for embedded Intel® architecture (IA) technology, today announced its Cinnamon Bay SBC product line of full function Single Board Computers (SBCs) based on the new options for the Intel® Atom™ processor Z5xx platform, which include industrial temperature products. Cinnamon Bay SBC measures a mere 88x110mm, and is available in three SKUs targeted to a wide range of deeply embedded applications such as industrial controls, digital signage, interactive kiosks, general-purpose embedded computing, IP media display and processing, military, medical, gaming, and point of sale (PoS) terminals. ADI offers a -40C to +85C extended temperature range SKU of Cinnamon Bay SBC to meet the rigorous demands of harsh industrial, military, automotive and outdoor applications.
Cinnamon Bay SBC can be used standalone in many applications, since common interfaces and connectors are included on the single board. When expansion is required, application-specific daughtercards can be added quickly and easily to meet unique requirements for HD or SD video, audio, networking, and other features.
Thanks to the new Intel Atom Z5xxP processor platform, Cinnamon Bay SBC achieves lower price points than embedded SBCs based on the earlier Intel® Atom™ Z500 processor, while adding new features such as extended temperature operation. 1ku direct OEM pricing for Cinnamon Bay SBC is $179 for a 1.1 GHz Z510P SKU, $259 for the 1.6 GHz Z530P SKU, and $299 for the 1.33 GHz extended temperature Z520PT SKU.
Features of the Cinnamon Bay SBC line include:
· Ultra-miniature 88x110mm form factor
· Three off the shelf processor options:
o 1.6 GHz Intel® Atom™ processor Z530P (commercial temperature)
o 1.1 GHz Intel® Atom™ processor Z510P (commercial temperature)
o 1.33 GHz Intel® Atom™ processor Z520PT (extended temperature)
· Two off the shelf SCH options (depending on processor):
o Intel® System Controller Hub US15WP (commercial temperature)
o Intel® System Controller Hub US15WPT (extended temperature)
· -40C to +85C extended temperature SKU
· 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE) as an option module on all SKUs, allowing creation of innovative “no new wires” PoE powered products
· DDR2 SO-DIMM (supports 256MB – 2GB)
· Bootable MicroSD slot
· 4 USB 2.0 host ports
· One Gigabit Ethernet port
· LVDS video port
· 4-wire touchscreen controller
· Trusted Platform Module
· PATA interface
· Watchdog timer
· Intel® High Definition Audio CODEC
· Battery backed real-time clock
· IrDA port
· Daughtercard expansion interface
ADI also offers off-the-shelf daughtercards serving SD and HD IP media applications. Development kits for Cinnamon Bay SBC are also available to enable rapid evaluation and application development.
“Cinnamon Bay SBC specifically targets deeply embedded applications not well served by existing COM or SBC approaches,” said Steve Yates, President, Founder and CTO of ADI Engineering. “With Cinnamon Bay SBC, ADI enables OEMs to take full advantage of the new options of the Intel® Atom™ platform in a flexible, low cost, extended temperature, long life single board computer line that greatly accelerates time to market and reduces the cost of easily differentiated embedded solutions.”
“By adding extended temperature operation to the already high performance per watt of the Intel® Atom™ microarchitecture, this platform brings the many benefits of Intel architecture to many more embedded applications,” said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. “Developers can now use Intel® Atom™ processor-based products, such as ADI Engineering’s Cinnamon Bay SBC line, in a wide range of systems used in unconstrained thermal environments like today’s digital factories.”
