Overview

Cinnamon Bay EX is a form-fit-function compatible upgrade to ADI’s popular Cinnamon Bay SBC. Based on the new Intel Atom E6xx system on chip (SoC), Cinnamon Bay EX continues to offer features such as -40 to +85C extended temperature operation, 802.3at Power over Ethernet, and FCC Part 15 certification even without an enclosure.

But Cinnamon Bay EX introduces new innovations from ADI that allow it to set new standards for cost effectiveness, integration and performance. Cinnamon Bay EX is the only SBC offered in a true single-chip “Thin” model without an I/O Hub chip, unlocking the full savings of Intel’s E6xx SoC. For applications requiring richly featured I/O, Cinnamon Bay EX is also available in two models based on a conventional E6xx + I/O Hub architecture.

As one of a select few Intel “Early Access” partners on the E6xx, ADI has created Cinnamon Bay EX to bring significant new capabilities to the market:

  • First SBC that uses the E6xx as a true single-chip Atom SoC, without the expense of an I/O Hub companion chip and associated support circuitry (model dependent), making Cinnamon Bay EX the lowest cost E6xx SBC. For applications needing a richer feature set, Cinnamon Bay EX is available in two models with the I/O hub.
  • First SBC available with “BLDK” royalty-free boot loader (model dependent), allowing Cinnamon Bay EX to achieve lower cost points and faster boot times than conventional BIOS-based Atom SBCs
  • First E6xx SBC offering an optional 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE+) input, in addition to a conventional 12V power input. ADI’s PoE+ Option Module seamlessly adds PoE+ to Cinnamon Bay EX’s Gb Ethernet port, and provides up to 20 watts of spare power for daughtercards and peripherals such as video displays, cameras, Wi-Fi or cellular radios, mass storage devices, and sensors.
  • Only E6xx SBC that complies with FCC Part 15 and CE CISPR22 system-level emissions standards even without an enclosure. Since the unhoused Cinnamon Bay EX itself already is a compliant system under FCC and CE emissions regulations, OEMs can add their choice of enclosure and compliant peripherals and in most cases achieve automatic compliance of their final system.
  • Only E6xx SBC backed by ADI’s groundbreaking Open IP model of customer-directed IP licensing and manufacturing
