WiMAX is a standards-based wireless technology that provides high-throughput broadband connections over long distances. WiMAX can be used for a number of applications, including "last mile" broadband connections and high-speed enterprise connectivity for business. WiMAX promises to enable significant innovation and market growth.
The 802.16d standard for fixed applications has already been ratified by the IEEE and first-generation solutions are appearing in the marketplace. The 802.16e standard for mobile applications is being eagerly awaited.
ADI supports WiMAX and other radio technologies in a mix-and-match fashion in our Pronghorn series of boards and systems targeted at Wireless ISPs, OEMs and system integrators. Also, many WiMAX equipment OEMs have used our IXP23XX based Roadrunner reference platform as a building block to accelerate development of low-cost, high-performance WiMAX base stations.
